Your daily prompts for October 2024: Welcome!
Welcome to your first month of journaling prompts! I’m so excited to share these with you.
Seeing as this is our official first month of the Journal For Joy membership, I’ve chosen a theme of ‘WELCOME’ 🙂 We’re exploring new beginnings and celebrations to kick us off, as well as ‘joy’ in general. I hope the prompts will get you feeling positive and uplifted, wherever you are right now in your life and journaling journey!
A few things to note:
Some of the prompts are lighthearted and playful, and others encourage you to take a bit of a deeper dive — but it’s entirely up to you how long you’d like to spend on each. They’re designed for you to be able to take as much or as little time as you like.
Likewise, it’s completely up to you whether you’d like to complete the journals prompt everyday or just pick and choose the ones that speak to you the most. There are enough here for you to do one a day, of course (and I personally love journaling every morning!) but if that feels unrealistic or pressured for you, then please don’t feel that you have to. Even journaling a couple of times a week can bring amazing benefits to your wellbeing and mindset, so I want you to approach this in a way that feels good for you.
Most of the prompts here are designed for you to explore with writing, unless otherwise stated. But please feel free to adapt them if you’d rather draw or collage or use any other creative techniques!
Tip — each time you want to get to these prompts you can log in to the Members area and head to this page (I’d recommended bookmarking it for quick access) or if you’d like to be able to access them offline, you could copy & paste all the prompts and save them in your notes app on your phone, or print them out on a piece of paper at the start of the month. Your choice, of course!
Lastly, I’m here to support you so please just send me an email on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk if you have any questions at any point.
Right, shall we get into it? 🙂✍️✨
The prompts
Set yourself a mini goal or intention for your first month in the Journal For Joy Membership, considering what you’d personally like to gain, learn, achieve or experience.
What is something truly wonderful that you have in your life right now, that you didn’t have this time last year?
Go for a short walk outside and look for little things that make you smile or bring you joy. When you get home, write about everything you noticed.
Draw a sun rising over the horizon. Along the line of the horizon, write down an opportunity that this new day is bringing to you (or if you’re journaling at night time, you could write about the opportunity that tomorrow will bring).
Make a brainstorm with the words ‘MY SMALL JOYS’ in the centre – and write down all of the little things that bring joy to your life. They might be everyday things, like your morning coffee, or less frequent things like treating yourself to a new pair of shoes. Note down as many as you can, aiming to fill your page!
What is something you are proud to have achieved in 2024? And what is something you’d still like to achieve before 2024 is up?
If you were given a free week to yourself to do absolutely anything you like, what would you do?
Listen to a song that makes you feel uplifted! As you listen, create something in your journal inspired by the music.
How would you like to feel by the end of this month? Write down three ideas for ways that you can begin to cultivate that feeling from today onwards.
What would your family or friends say are your best qualities? If you’re not sure, ask them.
Fill in the blanks with whatever comes to mind first:
I feel excited when ____________.
I feel calm when ___________ .
I experience joy when ___________.Write a poem (or just a paragraph of text) titled ‘A celebration I won’t forget’.
What is something you’re really looking forward to in the imminent future? Why are you looking forward to this thing?
Fill a page with a series of sketches or little doodles depicting all your favourite things about the autumn season.
Write down three decisions that you made in the past that have positively impacted your life today.
Think about a time when you have experienced unbridled joy. What did that joy look and feel like?
What’s the best thing that’s happened this week?
Draw a balloon shape and inside it write down something you’ve been holding on to that you’d like to let go of. Then close your eyes and visualise the balloon you’ve drawn floating away, until it’s completely out of sight.
Make a list of ways that the practice of journaling brings joy and positivity to your life.
Sketch a picture of something you’ve seen that made you smile recently (or write about it, if you prefer).
If you could wave a magic wand to immediately change one thing in your life for the better, what would it be?
What would your perfect party look like? Write about where it would be held, who would be there, what you’d be celebrating, the food and drink, what you’d wear and so on.
Write down three simple ways you can bring more joy and lightness into your day today (or tomorrow, if you’re journaling before bed).
Continue this sentence: ‘If I knew I could not fail, I would….’
Design a sparkly award badge for yourself for something that you’ve achieved this week. It could be something lighthearted, like cleaning the kitchen! Or something more emotive like overcoming a difficult situation.
What is something that brought you joy as a child that you no longer do now? Can you bring that into your life again, in some way?
If you could choose a big win for yourself for the remainder of 2024, what would it be? It doesn’t matter if this win feels achievable or not – let your imagination lead you.
Find a photograph in your phone that sparks joy. Write about the moment that photograph was taken.
What would you like to welcome more of in your life from now on? Spend 5 minutes free-writing to answer this question.
Make a list of your all your favourite moments from October.
Design a Halloween pumpkin with a super happy, smiley, joyful face! You could draw this in your journal or carve it in real life and stick a photo in your journal instead 🎃
