journal for joy workshops

For groups, workplaces, organisations and events

In our busy lives it’s so important to take time to slow down, reconnect with ourselves and our surroundings and find joy in the simple things. My workshops are designed to help you to do just that. For a few lighthearted hours, I’ll hold space for you (or your team) to embrace playful creativity, mindfulness, connection to nature, mini adventures and gratitude — my tried and tested feel-good mix!

Below you can find out more about the two main types of workshop that I typically offer, plus a bespoke option if you’re after something a little different.

CONNECT
TO NATURE:

Creative journal workshops

Nature journaling

In a nutshell

This two or three hour workshop is designed to help you feel more closely connected to nature through a mix of creative writing, drawing and mindfulness exercises.

It’s ideally held in the great outdoors (and is especially wonderful combined with a walk) but it’ll still work well indoors or online if the weather or logistics mean that’s not possible.

Made for:

  • Anyone who wants to give nature-journaling a go!

  • Anyone who’s craving a calming, mindful activity

  • Anyone who wants to start a journaling habit

  • A team wellbeing activity

  • Organisations supporting mental health, especially through connection to nature

  • Wellness retreats or festivals

  • Community groups

  • Private party bookings (new home celebrations, birthdays and so on!)

    …and more

"I had the absolute pleasure of hosting Hannah for a beautiful creative journaling workshop at our business and wellness retreat.

Hannah was so wonderful to work with - engaging, inspiring and all of our guests came away from her session feeling really enthused and aligned. They were really able to creatively express themselves in a safe space, and I wouldn't hesitate to welcome her back for a future event as a trusted practitioner!"

“It was wonderful to spend a few hours connecting with my thoughts and feelings about my hometown in a creative way and taking time to be reflective and appreciative about the place that I live. I will definitely be taking my Hometown journal along with me on my walks to try more of the mindful activities.

It was also interesting and inspiring to hear what others had to share and helped me to consider my perspective more deeply.”

 WORKSHOP FAQs

  • The optimum amount of people is between 6 and 12 to allow time for sharing and discussion between journaling - but if you have more or less people, that’s ok! Contact me on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk to discuss your estimated group size and I’ll let you know how it would work.

  • My prices vary depending on several factors: the nature of the event, the location, the size of the group, whether a bespoke workshop is required and so on. I’ll provide you with a custom quote but to give you an idea, for a workshop of 8-12 people my prices are typically £200-£250 for online workshops and £250-£350 for in-person workshops (plus travel). If you’re a charity organisation or a community group with lower budgets, please still get in touch on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk and we can discuss options.

  • I’d normally start with a short introductory talk about creative journaling and its benefits. Then we’d get into the journaling exercises! We’d typically do between four and six different exercises in a two hour session, with a mix of drawing, writing and mindfulness activities. There will be opportunities for participants to share their journal entries in between too, to spread the joy and help build connections in the group (although there’s never any pressure to do this).

  • No. My background is in writing. I am Mental Health First Aid trained but if you’d like me to host a workshop with a group with specific mental health challenges or needs, a member of your team or a caregiver will need to be present.

  • They’re not currently designed for children – but I have had teens come to my previous workshops (with a parent) and they’ve really enjoyed them! It’s at the parents’ discretion, of course, but I’d say 14 years old is the youngest suitable age right now. I’d really like to be able to offer Journal For Joy workshops for children in the future, so if you’re a teacher or anyone else who would be interested in discussing this, please get in touch with me on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk.

  • This is something that I hear a lot… but the truth is, we’re all creative! Sometimes we don’t feel that way because we don’t make time for it, or we’ve been told that we’re not creative in the past and it’s a belief that’s stuck with us. My workshops are designed so that you can take part and practice playful creativity, even if you have no prior experience of creative writing or drawing. You might even surprise yourself (people often do) 🙂
