Your daily prompts for December 2024: Magic ✨

This month your journal prompts are about creating MAGIC! We’ll be exploring cosiness, embracing the shorter darker days, making wishes and leaning into the festive feeling. I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed writing them ☺️

A few things to remember:

  • Some of the prompts are lighthearted and playful, and others encourage you to take a bit of a deeper dive — but it’s entirely up to you how long you’d like to spend on each. They’re designed for you to be able to take as much or as little time as you like.

  • Likewise, it’s completely up to you whether you’d like to complete the journals prompt everyday or just pick and choose the ones that speak to you the most. Do what feels good to do. If daily journaling feels unrealistic or pressured, then please don’t feel that you have to. Even journaling a couple of times a week can bring amazing benefits to your wellbeing and mindset!

  • Most of the prompts here are designed for you to explore with writing, unless otherwise stated. But please feel free to adapt them if you’d rather draw or collage or use any other creative techniques!

  • Tip — each time you want to get to these prompts you can log in to the Members area and head to this page (I’d recommended bookmarking it for quick access) or if you’d like to be able to access them offline, you could copy & paste all the prompts and save them in your notes app on your phone, or print them out on a piece of paper at the start of the month. Your choice, of course!

Lastly, I’m here to support you so please just send me an email on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk if you have any questions at any point.

Happy journaling,

Hannah x

The prompts

1. Write a Christmas/December bucket list with all the lovely experiences, big or small, you’d like to enjoy this month.

2. What does ‘wintering’ mean to you?

3. Light a candle. Close your eyes and make a wish! Blow out the candle and write down what you wished for.

4. How would you like to feel by the time New Year’s Eve rolls around? Write down three ideas for ways that you could begin to embody this feeling over the coming weeks.

5. What positive things do the shorter darker days bring to your life?

6. Think about the last time you felt really cosy. What were you doing? Write about (or draw) the moment, recalling as many little details as you can remember.

7. If you let go of expectation, pressure and comparison, what is the most important thing to you about the Christmas season?

8. What Christmas movies or songs create feelings of nostalgia (in a good way!) for you? Can you watch or listen to any of these this week?

9. What does ‘cosiness’ feel like in your body?

10. Write about a moment of magic you’ve experienced in your life, either recently or in your childhood.

11. If you could ride on a magic carpet to anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

12. What’s the cosiest place in your home right now?

13. Draw a Christmas stocking shape. Then fill your stocking with words that describe the feelings and experiences you’d like to have in 2025.

14. If your favourite jumper could talk, what would it say?!

15. Today is the last full moon of the year. Use this day to reflect on how you are feeling right now, what you are craving and anything you need to let go of.

16. What’s your favourite Christmas tradition, and why?

17. Mindfully drink a hot drink, paying attention to all of your five senses as you enjoy it. Write down what you noticed.

18. 1 week til Christmas! How are you feeling? What do you need?

19. What’s your favourite winter comfort food? What is it about that food that you love so much?

20. Fill a page in your journal with stars, like a beautiful night sky. In each star, write one word that describes something you feel grateful to have had in your life this year.

21. In light of the winter solstice today, write about something that you’d like to leave behind in 2024.

22. Draw your favourite Christmas decoration. You could also write a short story to accompany your drawing, if you like!

23. If you could gift yourself anything right now, what would it be?

24. What does Christmas Eve feel like?

25. Happy Christmas!! What’s something you’d like to ‘cheers’ to today?

26. Write down (or sketch) your favourite moments from Christmas day, big or small.

27. What do you love the most about nature at this time of year? Can you go outside and enjoy nature today?

28. Make a brainstorm of all your favourite ways to get cosy. You could decorate your page with doodles too, if you like.

29. My biggest wish for future-me is _______________.

30. If you were granted three wishes for three things to happen on New Year’s Eve as the clock struck midnight, what would they be?

31. If you could sum up 2024 in a few words, what would you say? And what would you like to be saying about 2025, this time next year?
