Your daily prompts for January 2025: Hopes & dreams 💖

Happy New Year my journaling friends! This month we’re exploring a theme that I hope will give you the positive inspiration to kick off 2025 well: HOPES & DREAMS! We’ll be journaling about our authentic desires, cultivating optimism and setting meaningful goals for the year ahead.

A few things to remember:

  • Some of the prompts are lighthearted and playful, and others encourage you to take a bit of a deeper dive — but it’s entirely up to you how long you’d like to spend on each. They’re designed for you to be able to take as much or as little time as you like.

  • Likewise, it’s completely up to you whether you’d like to complete the journals prompt everyday or just pick and choose the ones that speak to you the most. Do what feels good to do. If daily journaling feels unrealistic or pressured, then please don’t feel that you have to. Even journaling a couple of times a week can bring amazing benefits to your wellbeing and mindset!

  • Most of the prompts here are designed for you to explore with writing, unless otherwise stated. But please feel free to adapt them if you’d rather draw or collage or use any other creative techniques!

  • Tip — each time you want to get to these prompts you can log in to the Members area and head to this page (I’d recommended bookmarking it for quick access) or if you’d like to be able to access them offline, you could copy & paste all the prompts and save them in your notes app on your phone, or print them out on a piece of paper at the start of the month. Your choice, of course!

Lastly, I’m here to support you so please just send me an email on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk if you have any questions at any point.

Happy journaling,

Hannah x

The prompts

1. What do you want this January to be about? Free-write about how you’d like to feel and what you’d like to prioritise.

2. Make a list of 10 things you’re looking forward to in 2025.

3. Think about something in your life that feels uncertain right now. Now write down all of the ways that situation or thing could go RIGHT. List as many possible positive outcomes as you can!

4. Draw a heart on your page. Inside it, write down something that your heart truly desires today, big or small.

5. I give myself permission to strive for ______________ this year.

6. Plan three mini adventures you’d like to enjoy close to home before the winter season ends.

7. What does it mean to you to ‘dream big’?

8. Draw a flower at three different stages:
1) The planting of the seed beneath the soil.
2) The shoots or buds beginning to appear.
3) The flower in full bloom.
Now ask yourself, what do you need to nurture in this early part of the year to experience ‘full bloom’ this summer?

9. Write down 5 things you would like to have in your life in 5 years time.

10. When do you feel the most motivated and why?

11. Design a schedule for your dream Sunday, from waking up to going to bed!

12. Write some affirmations that’ll help you stay connected to a sense of optimism this month. For example, ‘I look for the good in my life’ or ‘I can choose how I react to things and I choose positivity!’.

13. Draw your own personal symbol of hope.

14. What would your dream home look like? Where would you live? What would it feel like? What would the decor be like? Allow yourself to dream as imaginatively as you like. Now write about it or make a collage that visually represents this home.

15. In 2024, were you more of a ‘feet-on-the-ground’ or ‘head-in-the-clouds’ person? List some examples.

16. Who or what inspires you to stay hopeful?

17. In the year ahead, I hope for more ______________, and less ______________.

18. Write a journal entry dated one year from now, imagining that everything has gone as well as it could and the future version of you is summarising all of the wonderful things that happened in 2025.

19. On a scale of 1 to 10, how optimistic is your mindset right now? If it’s 7 or less, brainstorm some ideas for how you might be able to increase it by one point.

20. Write about a trip you’d like to take this year.

21. Draw a daffodil and in its six petals, write down six things you’re looking forward to seeing or experiencing in nature once winter transitions to spring.

22. Design a congratulations card for yourself, imagining you have achieved one of your goals or intentions. Write a lovely message for yourself inside the card too!

23. Is there anything that you deeply desire to have, that you have not allowed yourself to dream about having?

24. Make a mindmap with ‘I hope that…’ at the centre and fill it out with whatever feels right for you today.

25. Can you remember something you dreamt about when you were a child? A dream toy? A dream home? A dream job when you were grown up? Write about anything that comes to mind.

26. Describe in detail an experience you wish to have in 2025. Write about in the present tense, including where you are, what you can see, hear, smell, feel and taste in this experience.

27. What matters the most to you, in this phase of your life?

28. _____________________ would be a dream come true.

29. If someone handed you £1000 that you had to spend on something for yourself, what would you buy?

30. List 10 reasons to believe in yourself.

31. What do you hope your life will look like when you are 80 years old?
