Your daily prompts for August 2025: Savouring

Life moves fast…savouring is the antidote! This month’s theme means we’re practicing the art of slowing down and consciously noticing, so we can find more joy in the moment. And what better time than August, in the midst of summer?

Savouring isn’t just about increasing our enjoyment too. Positive psychology shows that it can boost our overall wellbeing, reduce stress and anxiety, and enrich our everyday lives (more reading on that here, if you’re interested).

Journaling is a great way to savour all sorts of wonderful moments and things in our lives, so I hope you find this month’s prompts inspiring!

ENJOY. x

A few things to remember:

  • Some of the prompts are lighthearted and playful, and others encourage you to take a bit of a deeper dive — but it’s entirely up to you how long you’d like to spend on each. They’re designed for you to be able to take as much or as little time as you like.

  • Likewise, it’s completely up to you whether you’d like to complete the journals prompt everyday or just pick and choose the ones that speak to you the most. Do what feels good to do. If daily journaling feels unrealistic or pressured, then please don’t feel that you have to. Even journaling a couple of times a week can bring amazing benefits to your wellbeing and mindset!

  • Most of the prompts here are designed for you to explore with writing, unless otherwise stated. But please feel free to adapt them if you’d rather draw or collage or use any other creative techniques!

  • Tip — each time you want to get to these prompts you can log in to the Members area and head to this page (I’d recommended bookmarking it for quick access) or if you’d like to be able to access them offline, you could copy & paste all the prompts and save them in your notes app on your phone, or print them out on a piece of paper at the start of the month. Your choice, of course!

Lastly, I’m here to support you so please just send me an email on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk if you have any questions at any point.

Happy journaling,

Hannah x

The prompts

1. Make a list of ways that you’d like to savour in August. Is there anything you can plan into your diary now?

2. Eat a meal at half-speed today. Note down what you ate and what you noticed.

3. Go out into your garden, a park or somewhere you can hear birdsong. Close your eyes and listen, for at least a few minutes if you can! Draw or write something inspired by what you heard.

4. What opportunities do you have to slow down and savour the moment this week? Brainstorm some ideas.

5. Draw a big snail on your page! In the swirl of her shell, list reasons to be grateful this summer.

6. Write down something you can see, hear, smell, taste and feel in this present moment.

7. Choose something you want to savour for a few moments, like a hot drink or sitting out in the garden with the sun on your face. Set a timer for 3 minutes – and go ahead and savour it! Afterwards, free-write a journal entry about how it felt to stop and fully enjoy this thing.

8. Write a poem or make a sketch inspired by something that is happening in nature this month.

9. Lie down and watch the clouds. Draw the shapes that you can see and give them faces!

10. Go for a walk somewhere familiar close to home and look up. Write down anything you noticed that you had not previously.

11. Write down something you need to do this week that feels like a chore. Now write down three ways you could bring a little more joy to this task and savour it rather than just ‘getting it done’.

12. If you were gifted an extra hour today to spend in any way you like, what would you do and why?

13. Write a step-by-step guide to your favourite hobby, imagining it’s for someone who’s never done this activity before.

14. Find somewhere quiet at home. Set a timer and sit in a minute (or three minutes) of stillness and silence. Notice if it shifted your energy and write about it.

15. What simple joyful moments can you anticipate today? List some things that could happen that you’re looking forward to enjoying!

16. What did you like to do in the summertime as a child? Is there any inspiration that you can take from your childhood self for the remainder of August?

17. Choose a calming song and listen to it from start to finish, giving it your full attention. Then write down any thoughts or feelings that came up whilst you were listening.

18. List 5 simple joys that you get to experience today.

19. Is there a task that you felt the need to rush through recently? In retrospect, could you have slowed down and completed it with less urgency? How could you have done that?

20. Take your pen and slowly move it across the page to make an abstract shape or marks. Don’t think ahead about what you’re going to draw. Just take your time and notice the shapes that are appearing as you go.

21. Slowly eat a piece of fruit, paying attention to each of your five senses one-by-one. List the five senses on your page and try and describe something you experienced for each.

22. Draw a postcard depicting a joyful summer holidays’ memory.

23. Design your perfect slow morning, with timestamps and doodles if you like.

24. Write a poem titled ‘The art of slowing down’.

25. Make a list of slow and calm activities you’d like to enjoy before the summer’s over. Reading in the garden, sunbathing at the park on your lunch break, or eating an ice cream at the beach, perhaps?

26. Write down three things your future self might want to remember about today.

27. Recall a time when you were truly savouring the moment. What were you doing?

28. Draw a podium with first, second and third place. On each, write down or draw your top 3 simple pleasures right now.

29. Fill a page with fun doodles of all the things you’d like to do today (or all the things you did do today!).

30. Go outside and give your full attention to a plant or flower. Notice what it looks like, feels like and smells like. Watch how it moves in the breeze. Is it interacting with its surroundings in any way? Record your observations.

31. Reflecting on the month gone-by, write a gratitude list for moments or things that you got to savour or slow down.
