Your daily prompts for July 2025: Adventure

This month’s theme is a fun one (or I think so, at least!). Summer is a wonderful season for adventures — from planning exciting activities in the great outdoors, to enjoying spontaneous mini adventures close to home, to reflecting on more metaphorical ‘life’ adventures that we have embarked upon, or wish to embark upon. This month we’re going to delve into it all.

I hope these prompts will awaken your adventurous spirit in a way that feels nourishing, creative and, as always, joyful!

A few things to remember:

  • Some of the prompts are lighthearted and playful, and others encourage you to take a bit of a deeper dive — but it’s entirely up to you how long you’d like to spend on each. They’re designed for you to be able to take as much or as little time as you like.

  • Likewise, it’s completely up to you whether you’d like to complete the journals prompt everyday or just pick and choose the ones that speak to you the most. Do what feels good to do. If daily journaling feels unrealistic or pressured, then please don’t feel that you have to. Even journaling a couple of times a week can bring amazing benefits to your wellbeing and mindset!

  • Most of the prompts here are designed for you to explore with writing, unless otherwise stated. But please feel free to adapt them if you’d rather draw or collage or use any other creative techniques!

  • Tip — each time you want to get to these prompts you can log in to the Members area and head to this page (I’d recommended bookmarking it for quick access) or if you’d like to be able to access them offline, you could copy & paste all the prompts and save them in your notes app on your phone, or print them out on a piece of paper at the start of the month. Your choice, of course!

Lastly, I’m here to support you so please just send me an email on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk if you have any questions at any point.

Happy journaling,

Hannah x

The prompts

1. Adventure is _________________. Finish this sentence in five different ways.

2. Write down 10 ideas for mini adventures you can have close to home. Can you plan in any of these for the coming weeks?

3. Write about a time that you felt exhilarated.

4. What’s the biggest adventure been in your life so far? This could be a typical adventure like a big hike, or it could be a ‘life’ adventure, like changing careers or becoming a mum. Spend some time free-writing about it.

5. Go for a walk somewhere new. Afterwards, mark out the route and note the terrain, the distance and your own personal highlights.

6. ‘Enjoy the journey as much as the destination’. Create or write something in your journal inspired by this quote.

7. How can you add a little adventure to your day today? Could you try somewhere new for lunch, jump in the sea after work, or strike up a conversation with a stranger, perhaps? Write down one or two ideas and see if you can challenge yourself to make them happen.

8. If you were giving some personal travel tips to someone about the place that you live, what would you say? Write a list!

9. What’s the most memorable trip you’ve ever taken? Write about or draw your highlights of that trip.

10. Close your eyes. Take 5 deep breaths. Then, keeping your eyes closed, take yourself on a ‘mind vacation’ – see if you can visualise a place you’d like to visit, picturing the scenery, the weather, the sounds, smells and tastes. Spend as long as you like in this place. Then write about where you went.

11. Imagining life is a big adventure, what ‘terrain’ are you navigating right now? Perhaps rocky mountains, smooth seas or dense forests. Draw something that represents this.

12. Buy an ingredient from the supermarket that you have never bought before, then make a meal using this ingredient. Afterwards, write the recipe or draw a picture of the dish in your journal.

13. Do something spontaneous! It can be something big or small. Don’t overthink, just go and do it now! Afterwards, write about what you did and how it made you feel.

14. If your weekend was a movie, what genre would it have been?

15. Where’s the most unusual place you’ve ever travelled to? What was unusual about it?

16. Create a packing list for a dream summer adventure. It could be a written list, or a visual list with doodles.

17. Draw a circle in the middle of your page to represent your comfort zone. Within the circle, write down some things or activities that you enjoy that feel comfortable and familiar. Outside of the circle, write down some new things or activities that would push you outside of your comfort zone – but that you’d like to try anyway.

18. _____________ is something I will ALWAYS find fun because _____________.

19. Pick up a map of the village, town or city that you live in (or just print a Google map!). Stick it in your journal and mark at least five places you’d like to explore this summer.

20. Go for a mini adventure somewhere beautiful in nature. It could be a walk, a swim, stand-up paddle boarding, climbing a tree! Whatever your chosen activity, as you’re doing it, look for details that catch your eye and find a natural ‘souvenir’ to take home. A pretty shell, a leaf or a pebble, perhaps.

21. Is there an overseas adventure that you’ve always wanted to take but haven’t yet?

22. What’s your favourite international cuisine? Draw some doodles of your favourite foods and dishes associated with this cuisine.

23. Draw a polaroid photo frame shape. Inside, sketch a memory of an adventure you’ve had in 2025.

24. Draw a compass on your page, with north, east, south, west marked out. Next to each point, write down something relevant from where you are sitting right now. It can be things that are in the room you’re in, or you can think further afield! ‘North’ of me right now, for example, is my laptop, so I could write that. Or I could write Newquay, or Scotland!

25. Open a travel guide or travel-inspired book. Choose a line from the book that stands out to you. Write or create something in your journal inspired by this line.

26. Go to a place that’s familiar to you and see if you can explore it through the eyes of someone who’s never visited before – you could imagine you’re looking through the eyes of a young child or even an alien from another planet! With your fresh new perspective, describe this place. Write about your five senses, what stands out about this place, and anything else that comes up.

27. Make a collage or a vision board inspired by adventures you would like to take whilst you’re still able.

28. Draw a backpack shape on your page. Inside, write down the ‘ingredients’ for your perfect adventure day out.

29. What situation is unknown in your life right now? Does that feel scary? Confusing? Exciting? Explore this in your journal.

30. Is there something you’ve never done on your own before, that you’d like to? Go to the cinema, eat at a nice restaurant, go camping? Explore this in your journal.

31. Plan a solo adventure day for August (perhaps using your answer from yesterday as your inspiration!). Where will you go? What will you do? What will you eat? How will you get there? If you can, schedule this day into your diary now.
